What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a safe and secure way to support one or more false teeth. A dental implant is a titanium screw which does the job of the root of a tooth by attaching the tooth to the jaw bone. In this way false teeth can be secured to the jaw bone just like normal teeth. This is a well established procedure which is safe. Dental implants will last for as long as natural teeth will, assuming they are properly cared for. In many ways the false teeth are just like normal teeth – they certainly look no different!
What’s involved in getting Dental Implants?
Dental implants are generally used to replace lost teeth. Assuming that the jaw bone is strong and healthy enough, dental implants can replace either single teeth or a whole set. The procedure is considered easier than an extraction and can be done under local anaesthetic, although we have a range of options available for nervous patients.
For most patients, the implants are fitted 3 – 4 months before the false teeth are attached to them. Depending on the situation this may take a little longer. Lux Dental Care professionals will provide you with a full timetable before commencing any treatment.
In some cases, false teeth can be fitted at the same time as the implants which support them. These are called ‘immediate implants’ – if they are available we will be sure to give you the option before starting any treatment.
